While Louella was convalescing from her accident, Mildred Hembree’s short tenure as “baker” here at Faded Glory Farm brought with it a couple of unforgettable recipes. Mildred pays close attention to the time it takes to create her magical recipes, and she says this one “goes together in a jiffy.” We have tried it, and we would definitely agree – great banana pudding with minimal effort! Here is Mildred’s recipe:
INGREDIENTS:
1 Box of Nabisco Nilla Wafers
6 Ripe Bananas
1 Box, instant (sugar-free) Vanilla Pudding
1 Can, Eagle Brand condensed milk
1 1/2 Cups water
1 Pint, whipping cream
INSTRUCTIONS:
Line bottom of good sized casserole dish (or bowl) with Nilla Wafers
Cover Nilla Wafers with one half of your sliced bananas
Pudding: Mix together well – the pudding mix along with the condensed milk and water – and place mixture in refrigerator for five minutes.
Beat whipping cream until soft peaks form
Fold whipped cream into the pudding
Pour one-half of pudding mixture into casserole dish (on top of the first layer of bananas)
Add another layer of bananas
Top the second layer of bananas with the remaining pudding mixture
Garnish with a dusting of crushed Nilla Wafers
Chill, serve and enjoy.
